Tillamook Rock Lighthouse

Pictured in 1891, this shore view of the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse is said to be one of the oldest pictures taken in the state of Oregon. Built in 1880, 'Terrible Tilley', as she was often referred to, was decommissioned in 1957. Unattended and abandoned for 20 years, the light was eventually designated a National Historic Monument and wildlife refuge.

Abbot-Spalding House

 

  The Abbot-Spalding House has had four different owners since its' construction in 1804: Daniel Abbot, George Pelham, Rev. Henry Lessard, and William Spalding. The property was given to the Nashua Historical Society by Mr. Spalding's descendants. Open to the public, it features a museum with historic artifacts as well as being open for tours.

Natalee Holloway

 On the night of May 30, 2005, recent high school graduate Natalee Holloway was at Carlos 'n Charlie's, a restaurant and bar in Oranjestad, Aruba, celebrating one last night of partying with her friends before wrapping up their trip. This is the spot where she was last seen by these friends, and has remained missing since. Countless investigations have yielded no trace of her to this day.  

On January 12, 2012, at the request of her father, Natalee was declared legally dead. 

Chappaquiddick

On July 19, 1969 at 12:50 am, a car being driven by Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy takes a wrong turn on Chappaquiddick Island and accidentally plunges into the water off of Dyke Bridge. Kennedy survives, but his passenger, campaign aide Mary Jo Kopechne is trapped and drowns in the vehicle. This incident would ultimately end Ted Kennedy's bid for the U.S. Presidency.

Could The Mystery Be Finally Solved?

Yesterday, an article authored by Richard L. Jantz, Professor Emeritus and Director Emeritus at the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology Center, was released regarding the Amelia Earhart mystery. It tells of recent studies of the skeletal remains recovered on Nikumaroro Island in the South Pacific as having a 99% probability of  being those of the long lost aviator.

'Bridge of No Return'

On December 23, 1968, the crew of the USS Pueblo is pictured crossing into South Korea after being held captive for 11 months. On January 23 of that year, the Pueblo was attacked off the Korean coast and seized by North Korea. The ship remains in Pyongyang, North Korea, where it serves as a propaganda attraction.

Hume-Fogg Academic High School

Hume-Fogg Academic High School, located in Nashville, TN, is the nation's oldest operating high school. Opened in 1855 as Hume High School, it was Nashville's first. The city's second high school, Fogg High School, was built directly adjacent to Hume in 1875. In 1912, the two schools merged and continue to this day to provide quality education to its' students.  The school was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places on October 16, 1974.
