Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, accented by its' many articles of remembrance left daily, is photographed in a seemingly peaceful evening setting with the Washington Monument visible in the distance. Located in Constitution Gardens, adjacent to the National Mall and the Lincoln Monument, the wall was designed by landscape architect Maya Lin. The main section of the Memorial was completed in 1982, and currently lists 58, 627 names of soldiers who died, or were missing in action from the Vietnam War.

Famous Stairway

Located at the three way intersection of Canal Rd NW / M St. NW / and US 29  in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC, the famous stairway that was featured in the movie The Exorcist is pictured above. It was from the top of these stairs that the priest was pushed and fell to his death in the 1973 film. The location remains a tourist attraction, especially for the avid movie buff.

Duke Ellington

Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington was an American composer, pianist, and jazz orchestra leader. Born in Washington, DC on April 29, 1899, his award filled musical career resulted in his being largely recognized as one of the greatest figures in the history of jazz. Ellington died in New York City on May 24, 1974 at the age of 75. His image appears on the back of the Washington, DC quarter, which was released in 2009.

President Lincoln Funeral Train

In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln's funeral train is pictured during a stop in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where his body would lay in state in the capitol building. The train was retracing the route it had traveled from Illinois to Washington, DC in 1860, when Lincoln was elected president.
