The First Cell Phone Call

Martin Cooper is pictured in 1973 making the first known public cell phone call with his DynaTAC phone. He and his team at Motorola in New York City are credited with the invention of the cell phone.

A Champ In Death

Shot to death at the age of 23, Puerto Rican boxing champ Christopher Rivera's lifeless body seems to be ready to take on a new opponent. Family and friends paid their respects at the makeshift rink at a gymnasium near his San Juan home.

The Great White Fleet

On December 16, 1907, 16 US Navy battleships departed from Hampton Roads, VA. The convoy, named The Great White Fleet, would circumnavigate the world for 14 months. Post cards, such as the one pictured below commemorating the battleship Connecticut,  were released during the voyage.

100 Year Old Notebook

One hundred plus years after he died while on an expedition, British explorer Robert Scott left behind this notebook that was recently discovered embedded in the Antarctic ice. Following its' discovery by the Antarctic Heritage Trust, it was methodically restored and reassembled to its' current condition. 

We Remember Keiko

A cairn on the shore of Taknes Bay in Iceland, marks the final resting place of Keiko, the star okra who once was featured in the Free Willy films. He died ten years after being reintroduced into the wild just off the coast of Iceland.
