Taj Mahal pictured sometime in the 1860'sThe Taj Mahal is a mausoleum in Agra, India built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. In 1632, one year after his wife's death, construction began on the palace he had promised her on her death bed. The 'Taj', as it is often referred to, was fully completed in 1653, and continues to be a popular tourist attraction.
