On May 25, 1979 United Airlines Flight 191 takes off from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago headed to Los Angeles with 271 people on board. Just as it starts its' liftoff from the runway, the number 1 engine is severed from the DC 10 aircraft. The plane then goes into an unrecoverable bank and hits the ground moments later. An amateur photographer captured the above image of AA191 seconds before its' crash. What has been called the deadliest single aircraft accident on US soil, left no survivors.Monday, June 22, 2009
